What This Book Actually Is
Most rune books do one of two things. They either go so deep into academic history that you lose the thread, or they go so fluffy that the runes end up meaning basically anything and nothing at the same time.
This one tries to walk the line.
The Elder Futhark Runebook covers all 24 runes of the oldest runic alphabet we have record of. Each rune gets its own page with the literal meaning, the abstract meanings, how to pronounce it, and a plain English interpretation. No fluff. No overclaiming.
But here's the part I think matters most... there's space on every page for your own notes!
Because the runes aren't going to mean the same thing to you as they do to me. That's not a bug. That's just how it works.

Why I Wrote This
When I got interested in the runes, I kept running into a problem. The resources I found were either written for scholars or written for people who wanted magic spells. I wasn't really either of those things.
I hover somewhere between the magical and the mundane when it comes to the runes. I know they're an alphabet. I also know that engaging with a symbol system, really sitting with it, meditating on it, using it to think, does something to the way you understand the world.
I wanted a book that honored both of those things. A guide grounded in what we actually know historically, with room for the personal and spiritual meaning you bring to it yourself.
That's what this is.
I also wanted it small enough to carry. So I kept it small.
If you're new to the runes, this is a solid starting point. If you've been at it for a while and want something to organize your practice, it works for that too.
Either way, the notes sections are the most important part. Fill them up.
